IXL is an interactive web-based math practice site. It is fun and easy to use, it can be accessed from both computers or tablets. IXL offers math practice from pre-school to grade 11 with grade 12 coming soon. The grade level work aligns with the New Brunswick curriculum. Students can also work by subject and then a grade level is not attached.
Schools can purchase a membership for 30 students for $199/year. You can also sign up for a 30 day free trial. Students
receive immediate feedback as they progress through the program.
Teachers (or parents) can get reports that detail the time each child spent on an skill, how long the child was logged on to the site, what skills were practiced and and areas they had difficulty with.
The biggest complaint with IXL is the Smart Score system. It can be very frustrating for students. The goal is to reach 100
points to indicate mastery, however, the closer you get to 100 points the more points are deducted when a mistake is made.
Overall, IXL can be a useful support and provide students with extra practice on areas of difficulty.
